STEP ON Happy Mondays

Woah, I had forgotten what a good year for music 1990 was (though admittedly I'm reminded more of the stuff which isn't on this list). Some allegedly big hits here which I had to search for mp3s to remind me what on earth they sounded like. And I really can't remember (or find) the Deacon Blue Bacharach EP.

Anyway, Step On wins, as in my mind 1990 is synonymous with the Happy Mondays and vice versa.

My very first single was New Order. I got it on tape format after saving my pocket money. I even remember the day I got it I felt all grown up!

Ah, cassette singles. Pocket money. Jumpers for goalposts...

My first gig was New Order, in 1989.

My first proper gig was that year too! It was a load of bands including Deacon Blue at Loch Lomond. Ok it wasnt really a "gig". My first proper gig was Take That the year Robbie shaved his head so I think 95 or 96?

You left school in 1991? Wow!

Which kind of wow -- should I be flattered?

Depends if you want to look younger or older. I wouldnt have thought you were that age anyways

The Deacon Blue ep had a really, almost painfully, slow rendition of I'll Never Fall In Love Again. And three other songs that I have completely forgotten.

Is this a good time to mention my uncle is in that band?

La! Who is he?

When I was 16-18 they were one of my two favourite bands, possibly helped by my burgeoning crushes on both Ricky and Lorraine that helped assure me that I was definitely bi. First record I ever bought was wtwkyn, about a week before I turned sixteen.

Then along came tab and in the manner of teenage obsession bands, Deacon Blue were dropped like a hot coal. So they have an odd place in my heart in the manner of Bros or Take That or what have you for other people. Forgetting the other three tracks of the ep set off a whole nostalgia trip about compulsively buying every release on every format -- must be a little pile of 12" records back at my dad's house if they haven't been binned yet, and back in the day I could have told you the tracklist and playing times etc off by heart.

Jim Prime the keyboard player. He's also doing some work with Jean Michel Jarre currently. We look nothing like each other though but he is a pretty cool guy.

I used to fancy the arse off Ricky till he peeved me off at a family party one night and i've not quite forgiven him yet. Lorraine is gorgeous but a terrible actress (she currently is in a Glasgow soap called River City). Dougie on the other hand is rather yummy!

Odd - for some reason I had just been thinking about the girl I was at school with who used to go out with Jean Michel Jarre's son. Or so she claimed.

Dont let us stop you perving

I imagine that would be an age gap relationship?

No, same age. Actually my googling has reminded me he is merely JMJ's step-son, and his mother is Charlotte Rampling - he has the misfortune to be called Barnaby.

Aww, here's a pic of him in 1975.
